April 26th

 Wow it's going to be May next week.. crazy how time flies! The grade 4's this week celebrated Earth Day by repurposing our "GOOSE" paper (Good on one side) as well as colour paper scraps into seed paper... the process was a messy one! In Math we explored angles with protractors for the first time, Dove into the final stretch for our socials presentations, and wrote a provincial writing assignment! Alberta Champions Social Studies Presentations are on Monday! If your students did not finish in class, please have them complete it over the weekend! Have a great weekend!

April 18th

 Happy Short Week! Wow, can't believe we are already halfway through April!  This week students continued their Alberta Champion research, wrapped up their space unit, and explored characteristics of different shapes in geometry. Students also transitioned from daily morning edits, to daily morning word problems :) Students were introduced to their next read aloud, "James and the Giant Peach," and wrapped up persuasive writing to allow for some spring time poetry to begin soon! April 12th

 This week in grade 4 students took a deeper look at the fascinations of the eclipse we live streamed on Monday. They continued their geometry unit, and began their research for their Alberta Champions project in social studies. In music, they continued to prepare for the Thursday night concert and they did a wonderful job!! Reminders: -Scholastic orders for April are due on the 22nd -Class pictures are next week on April 18th -Gymnastics begins next week: no baggy clothing! long hair tied up, no dangly earrings or necklaces, no hoodies! -We are still looking for BIG pots or things that could be used as pots for our school indoor garden!

 Happy April and Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a great and restful Spring Break. We are officially in the last three-month stretch till Summer. Lots of work will be happening in grade 4 these next few months! This week students began their Geometry Unit with Ms. Knox as well as their Persuasive Writing Unit in ELA. They also continued learning about space, and the upcoming Solar Eclipse happening on Monday. Along with this continuing their discovery of early Alberta! As you can see in our picture, the school indoor garden is in need of some love and larger homes, if you have ANY items that could be used to house our garden plants, herbs or fruit please bring them to the school we would LOVE to take them off your hands :) Important Dates Coming Up: -April 8th Sola Eclipse (Make sure you take precautions while outside between 11:00AM and1:00 PM) -April 11th Spring Showcase: Students need to arrive at the school at 5:30 and meet in their classrooms dressed in their EMJ shirts and dark

  Happy Spring Break... We are going to put out good vibes and fingers crossed for NO MORE SNOW!! Students had a great 4 days before leaving on Spring Break! They explored estimation with Ms. Knox, and continued work in Morphology and editing in writing. Did some more exploration in health and had a great beginning of the week outside with the sun!   Happy Almost Spring! What a beautiful week we have had! Students explored equivalent fractions this week in math, took a deeper dive into primary and secondary data and saw first-hand some excellent examples at our Fort Calgary trip Tuesday. In writing, students continued procedural writing ('how to' writing) and we did some French family learning in class this week! Take a look at some of our amazing plant pots students made in preparation for our plant unit... they will soon house some lovely herbs, as well as some other great photos! We also welcomed back Ms. Knox today as she begins the final portions of her first year in teaching school! She will be taking over some teaching with the students until the end of April, Sarah will also be present for Parent Conferences on Thursday, March 21st.  Fingers crossed the snow stays away! Grade 4's this week took home their field trip forms for Fort Calgary on March 12th. Students did an AMAZING job on their moon presentations I am so proud of all of them, and began the process of procedural writing! In Math, students began exploring fractions. Students went home on Monday with their multiplication and division quiz, to do corrections on at home over the next two weeks.  **Planning Ahead**   In preparation for our plant unit in science coming up in the spring, if any families have any old plant pots, buckets or anything that can be used for our indoor garden; including soil, seeds, plant food etc.. and they would not mind donating them to our grade 4 classes, please send them in with your students, we greatly appreciate it!
